Who We Are
Building Belizean Livelihoods and the Environment (B-BLUE) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing sustainable agriculture, aquaculture, and environmental restoration in southern Belize. Our mission is to enhance community livelihoods, improve food security, manage natural resources, and alleviate poverty among small-scale producers. We strive to create a sustainable and thriving Belize and a better world by empowering local communities through education, conservation, and innovative projects.
What We Do
At BBLUE, we aim to create a sustainable and thriving Belize and a better world by restoring the environment, promoting sustainable aquaculture and agriculture, supporting education and research, enhancing community development, and designing impactful group projects. Our initiatives include studying and conserving ecosystems, monitoring progress, and empowering students, farmers, fishermen, and tour guides through local and international knowledge-sharing programs.
B-BLUE operates through five key programs dedicated to fostering sustainable livelihoods and implementing environmental restoration strategies in vulnerable ecosystems. Here’s an overview of each program:
Description of Programs
Environmental Restoration Projects Program
This program is devoted to environmental restoration. We undertake projects focused on revitalizing natural ecosystems, preventing natural disasters, and protecting or restoring endangered species. Our team engages in activities such as habitat restoration, disaster risk reduction, and wildlife conservation.
Sustainable Aquaculture and Agriculture Development Program
Our program is dedicated to advancing sustainable practices in both aquaculture and agriculture. It aims to enhance the productivity and sustainability of these operations while preserving marine and terrestrial ecosystems. We provide training, resources, and support to communities and organizations engaged in these fields, with a particular focus on empowering women to assume leadership roles and establish women-led ventures.

In aquaculture development, we strive to enhance the productivity and sustainability of aquaculture operations while preserving marine ecosystems. We offer training, resources, and support to communities engaged in aquaculture, emphasizing the empowerment of women to establish and lead their own aquaculture ventures.

For agriculture development, we partner with Mayan communities in Southern Belize to bolster local livelihoods and preserve cultural heritage. Our initiative focuses on growing traditional crops such as cacao, turmeric, and ginger. We provide resources and support to farming communities to improve their agricultural practices, with a special emphasis on empowering women through women-led agricultural initiatives that generate additional income.
Educational Programs and Research
Our Research Hub and International Exchange Program serves as a center for global collaboration in areas such as environmental restoration, natural disaster prevention, endangered species protection and restoration, and plastic waste recycling. We facilitate international exchange programs, research initiatives, and knowledge-sharing opportunities for experts and students passionate about these crucial fields. Through these programs, we aim to foster innovation, enhance expertise, and promote sustainable practices that address some of the most pressing environmental challenges. By bringing together diverse perspectives and expertise, we strive to create impactful solutions and advance the collective knowledge in these essential areas.
Community Outreach and Development
Our Community Outreach and Development program is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of local communities through sustainable initiatives and educational support. We focus on building strong, resilient communities by providing resources, training, and assistance in areas such as healthcare, education, and environmental stewardship. By engaging with community members and leaders, we develop programs that address specific local needs and foster long-term development. A key aspect of our efforts is empowering women and marginalized groups, enabling them to take active roles in community leadership and economic development. Through collaboration and shared goals, we aim to create thriving communities that are well-equipped to face future challenges.
Group Project Design Services
Our Group Project Design Services cater to both local groups and those visiting Belize, offering opportunities to engage in impactful projects that address environmental and community needs. We collaborate with company teams, friends and families, church groups, educational institutions, and community organizations to design projects that align with their goals while promoting sustainability and local development.

Our completed projects include cacao and mahogany planting, building community chicken coops for Mayan villages, distributing school supplies and hygiene kits, teaching classes on transforming plastic bottle waste into 3D printed art pieces and souvenirs, and planting seaweed and mangroves. These services not only foster teamwork and leadership skills but also enable participants to make meaningful contributions to the Belizean community and environment. By engaging in these well-structured projects, groups can achieve their objectives while making a positive and lasting impact.
