Environmental Restoration Projects

This program provides facilities and support for groups involved in volunteering and research related to environmental restoration. Our goal is to host individuals and groups, both from within Belize and internationally, who are interested in contributing to environmental sustainability. We offer a research and dormitory setting dedicated to these efforts and welcome your participation in our current projects.

Our ongoing environmental restoration projects include:

Marine:

  • Seaweed farming to provide alternative livelihoods, clean ocean water, promote carbon sequestration, and offer shelter for marine juveniles

  • Mangrove conservation and restoration efforts

  • Coral reef monitoring and rehabilitation

  • Plastic waste upcycling

Terrestrial:

  • Agro-ecological restoration projects

  • Reforestation and habitat restoration activities

  • Maya ruin preservation efforts

  • Sustainable agriculture and community engagement

Join us in making a positive impact on the environment through these vital restoration initiatives in Belize.

Plastic Bottle Waste Upcycling Initiative in Collaboration with Placencia Village

Plastic waste is a significant issue in Belize, affecting both land and ocean environments. The common practice of burning plastic waste not only releases harmful fumes but also poses a fire hazard and risks burns. Due to the lack of proper disposal methods in the country, addressing this issue has become crucial.

To combat this problem, B-BLUE, in collaboration with Placencia Village, has launched an innovative plastic bottle waste upcycling initiative. This project utilizes an advanced machine that converts PET 1 plastic bottles into filaments for 3D printing. These filaments are then used to create beautiful art pieces and souvenirs for tourists, effectively completing the recycling cycle. Tourists can purchase these items, directly contributing to waste reduction efforts.

The upcycling shop will also host local artists who will create these art pieces and conduct "color-me-mine" style classes. This not only provides a platform for local artists to generate income but also encourages the development of artistic talents in Belize. By integrating environmental sustainability with economic opportunities, this initiative aims to reduce plastic waste and promote a culture of creativity and environmental stewardship in the community.

This project empowers the community by providing sustainable solutions to plastic waste management while fostering economic growth through tourism and local artistry.
