Tour Overview

Join us for a transformative day-tour in southern Belize, focused on supporting the local green economy, reforestation, and immersing yourself in the rich Mayan heritage. This tour combines hands-on projects such as cacao farming and mahogany reforestation with cultural experiences like Mayan cooking and exploring the ancient Mayan ruins of Nim Li Punit, guided by our in-house specialist in Belize history, archaeology, and geology.

Itinerary

1. Departure and Arrival

Morning Departure: Depart from BBLUE Hub in the early morning for a scenic drive through the lush Belizean landscape, heading towards the heart of the Mayan communities.

2. Cacao Farming

Farm Visit and Introduction: Arrive at a local cacao farm and meet the farmers dedicated to sustainable agriculture. Learn about the traditional methods of cacao cultivation and the importance of cacao in the local economy.

Hands-On Activity: Participate in the planting and tending of cacao seedlings. Understand the process from planting to harvesting, and how cacao farming supports the livelihoods of local families.

3. Mahogany Reforestation

Reforestation Project: Move to a designated reforestation area within the cacao farm. Learn about the significance of mahogany trees as shade providers for cacao plants and their role in the ecosystem.

Tree Planting Activity: Plant mahogany saplings alongside cacao seedlings. Gain practical knowledge on tree planting techniques and the benefits of agroforestry, which combines agriculture and forestry to create sustainable land-use systems.

4. Lunch Break

Mayan Cooking Experience: Enjoy a traditional Mayan cooking session. Learn to prepare authentic Mayan dishes using locally sourced ingredients. Savor the unique flavors of Mayan cuisine while gaining insight into the cultural significance of each dish.

5. Mayan Ruins Exploration

Visit to Nim Li Punit: After lunch, head to the nearby Mayan ruins of Nim Li Punit. This archaeological site, known for its impressive stelae and ceremonial structures, offers a glimpse into the ancient Mayan civilization.

Guided Tour by Specialist: Take a guided tour of Nim Li Punit with our in-house specialist in Belize history, archaeology, and geology. Explore the site's history, architecture, and the daily lives of the Mayan people who once inhabited the area. Learn about the Mayan calendar, hieroglyphics, and the significance of the site in Mayan culture.

6. Return Journey

Afternoon Departure: As the day comes to an end, embark on the return journey to BBLUE Hub. Reflect on the day’s activities and the contributions you’ve made to local reforestation efforts and cultural preservation.

7. Arrival in BBLUE Hub

Evening Arrival: Arrive back in BBLUE Hub in the late afternoon, with plenty of time to enjoy the evening at your leisure.
